**Day 02: Encounter with the Tang Dynasty Titan**
As morning breaks around 09:00, embark on a picturesque two-hour drive across the scenic landscapes of the Western Chengdu Plains. Your destination is the ancient Lingyun Temple in Leshan, the guardian of the magnificent Leshan Grand Buddha. Completed in 803 during the Tang Dynasty, this colossal 71-meter-tall sitting stone sculpture is the largest in the world. Carved directly into the sheer cliff face, it remains a staggering engineering marvel, featuring a perfectly balanced structure and an advanced water drainage system. You also have the option to take a boat tour to gaze up at this towering giant from the river. In the afternoon, journey back to Chengdu to wander the labyrinthine paths of the Wide and Narrow Alleys (Kuanzhai Xiazi). Here, you can uncover hidden architectural gems where the traditional meets the modern, and sample delicious local snacks. In the evening, you may choose to witness the mysterious, fire-spitting, and face-changing illusions of an optional Sichuan Opera performance.
**Day 03: Living Treasures and the Journey into the Wild North**
Start your day early, between 07:30 and 08:00, with an expedition to the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center. Witness the iconic giant pandas during their morning feeding time, marveling at the playful antics of the adorable cubs. Dive deeper into their fascinating world through an engaging documentary at the Panda Story Cinema. After a local lunch, immerse yourself in the authentic rhythm of city life at People’s Park, where you can sip traditional tea at an open-air teahouse while observing locals at leisure. In the afternoon, the real wilderness calls. Transfer to the Chengdu Eastern Train Station for a 2-hour high-speed train journey to Huanglong Jiuzhaigou Train Station. Upon arrival, a 2-hour drive will take you to your hotel, nestled just outside the boundaries of Jiuzhaigou Park, where you will spend a restful night on the edge of the unknown.
**Day 04: Lost in the Enchanted Valley of Nine Villages**
Prepare to discover the ethereal beauty of Jiuzhaigou National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its vibrant turquoise lakes, cascading waterfalls, and deep, lush forests. Hidden high in the mountains of Northern Sichuan, this natural sanctuary feels like stepping into another realm. Following a morning pick-up, delve into Shuzheng Valley to uncover the secrets of Reed Lake, the rushing Shuzheng Waterfall, and the mesmerizing Shuzheng Lakes. Capture the majesty of the iconic Nuorilang Waterfall before taking a shuttle deeper into Rize Valley. Here, behold the hypnotic colors of the Five Flower Lake, the shimmering cascades of Pearl Shoal Waterfall, and the flawless reflections of Mirror Lake. In the afternoon, venture into Zechawa Valley to stand before Long Lake, the park’s largest and deepest body of water, and the astonishingly vivid Five-Color Pond. Late in the afternoon, meet your driver for the return journey. For those seeking cultural discovery, an optional evening Tibetan performance offers vibrant costumes, traditional music, and dance.
**Day 05: The Mystical Terraces of the Yellow Dragon**
Leave Jiuzhaigou behind during a scenic 2.5-hour morning drive toward Huanglong National Park. This mysterious landscape is celebrated worldwide for its vividly colored lakes, cascading terraced pools, and breathtaking alpine scenery. Upon arrival, ascend the mountain via cable car to the upper reaches near the ancient Huanglong Temple. From there, take a short walk to the legendary Five-Colored Ponds, a surreal collection of crystal-clear waters gleaming in otherworldly hues. After taking in this natural wonder, begin your descent on foot, winding your way through serene forests, unique geological formations, and countless terraced pools. After 3-4 hours of exploration, a 30-minute drive will bring you to the Huanglong Jiuzhaigou Train Station for your journey back to Chengdu. Upon arrival in the city, you will be transferred to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
**Day 06: The Stairway to Heaven and the Edge of the Abyss**
The adventure accelerates as you depart from Chengdu East Railway Station on a morning high-speed train (G2445, 08:00–11:58) to the awe-inspiring region of Zhangjiajie. In just four hours, your local guide will meet you and whisk you away to Tianmen Mountain. Rising 1,520 meters into the sky, it is considered the very soul of Zhangjiajie, known for dramatic cliffs and striking karst formations. Begin your ascent on the Tianmen Mountain Cableway—one of the longest in the world—gliding over the 99 dizzying bends of the Avenue Toward Heaven. At the summit, explore the remote Tianmen Temple and tread carefully along the cliff-side walkways. Dare to walk the glass skywalks, where only a clear panel separates you from the sheer drop below. Descend via escalator to the magnificent Tianmen Cave, a colossal 131-meter-high natural arch carved by time. Challenge yourself on the steep 999 steps leading to its base. If time permits after descending via cable car, explore the atmospheric 72 Qilou District to experience traditional Tujia stilted houses and vibrant street life. End the day at your hotel in Wulingyuan.
**Day 07: Ascending into the Floating Realm**
Your second day in Zhangjiajie unlocks the surreal wonders of Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain inside the National Forest Park. The journey begins with an exhilarating ascent on the Bailong Elevator—the highest and fastest outdoor elevator on Earth. You will emerge into Yuanjiajie, the legendary “Backyard Garden”. Set at an altitude of 1,074 meters and spanning 1,200 hectares, this area features the First Bridge Under Heaven—a gravity-defying natural stone bridge spanning 20 meters across thin air. Wander among the majestic sandstone peaks, steaming valleys, and whispering pines that inspired the floating Hallelujah Mountains of Avatar. Following lunch, ascend to Tianzi Mountain, known as the “King of All Mountains” and named after a historic Tujia uprising leader, Xiang Dakun. Here, you will be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of dramatic peaks piercing through seas of shifting clouds and mist. Conclude this mythical day with an overnight stay in Zhangjiajie.
**Day 08: The Final Quest – Primeval Forests or the Glass Chasm**
On your final day, two extraordinary paths await to conclude your epic journey:
**Option 1: The Primeval Path of Huangshizhai & Golden Whip Creek**
Start with a cable car ride to the misty summit of Huangshizhai, offering panoramic views of towering peaks and dense, ancient forests. Let the ethereal charm of the swirling mists captivate you. Afterwards, descend into the tranquil valley of Golden Whip Creek. Follow the winding waters past exotic flora, hidden caves, and unique rock formations, immersing yourself entirely in nature’s quiet beauty.
**Option 2: The Glass Bridge, Grand Canyon & Baofeng Lake**
Embrace the thrill of walking across the Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge, the highest and longest of its kind in the world, suspended over a breathtaking chasm. Continue with a moderate 2-hour hike down into the Grand Canyon, discovering hidden waterfalls and lush, untouched vegetation. In the afternoon, travel to Baofeng Lake for a serene 30-minute boat ride surrounded by towering mountains and the echoes of traditional local songs. You may also choose to visit a local Tu minority house to learn about their ancient customs and enjoy a traditional dinner (optional).
As evening approaches, you will be transferred to Zhangjiajie Airport for your departure. Whether you are heading to Shanghai, Beijing, or beyond, your travel advisor remains ready to assist with the next chapter of your adventure.
